Gallen CS held their annual celebration of Academic Excellence at the Gallen CS Academic Awards in the school on Friday October 26 last.
Guest of Honour was Owen Diviney ,a management professional, mental strength coach with national and international athletes , lecturer in Performance Sports Coaching in NUIG as well as being a Senior Tutor with Super Generation helping young people to learn and lead more effectively.
Gallen CS also welcomed Mrs Geraldine Keena , Chairperson of Gallen CS Board of Management, Mr Paddy Egan and Mr Joe Grennan representing St Brigids Credit Union, Mr Frank Sugrue representing the Sugrue Family and Mr Larry Rohan , Chairperson , Gallen CS Parents Association.
Gallen CS was very honoured to welcome its guests, staff , past and present students and their families to our Annual Academic Awards 2018.
Mrs Ursula Finnegan , Principal , Gallen CS in her introductory address talked about the quest for excellence , hard work and grit as being the hallmarks of success.Mrs Finnegan also thanked Mrs Breen for her help in organising the Awards night.
Owen Diviney in his address talked about everyone in life striving to be the best they can be. Mr Diviney said that everyone has a purpose and a talent and that some of the skills he learned in his capacity as an international oarsman can be applied in the spheres of life and education.
Mr Diviney listed noteworthy qualities such as motivation , determination , resilience and grit , all praiseworthy qualities that he had prefaced earlier that day in his address to 5th and 6th years.
Mr Diviney remarked that you must foster a growth mindset if you are to succeed . In addition to this you must have patience , perseverance and take responsibility if you are to succeed he said.
Mrs Frances Scully Deputy Principal Gallen CS then introduced the Award Categories.
FIRST YEAR ACADEMIC AWARDS-
with the criteria being best results in 7 subjects in Summer Tests 2018 went to
Best Students in St Enda’s- Abaigeal Connon , Ruairi o Neill , Ava o Connor .
Best Students in St Finbarr’s – Josh Dunican, Lily Kennedy , Gemma Reams , Saran Flynn.
Mrs Finnegan and Mr Larry Rohan presented the students with their awards.
SECOND YEAR ACADEMIC AWARDS
with the criteria being best results in 7 subjects in Summer Tests 2018 went to.
Best Students in St Mels – Moya Ibbotson , Katie Flynn.
Best students in St Colms – Mollie Flynn , Ava Grace Egan , Eoin Sheridan.

FIFTH YEAR ACADEMIC AWARDS
with the criteria being best results in 6 subjects at Higher Level in Summer Tests 2018 went to.
Sara Madden , Colin Wren and Katie mc Creedy.
