Saturday 23rd saw a great turn out in the School for the Lynx Cycling Club Annual Charity event in aid of our Autism Centre. A great number of cyclists turned up not just from the Ferbane club but also from clubs in Longford, Roscommon, Mullingar, Tullamore, Birr, Ballinasloe, Portumna to name afew. The wind was strong but the spirits were high as the first group left at 10am to do their first leg of the 100km. The second group left at 10.30 to start the 50km and at 12 noonthe final group left to do the 25km ( really about 28km !) .
This year we encouraged students to take part and we had representatives from all age groups in the school . We thank them for their good sport and support of their fellow students in the Cluny Centre. Thomas in fifth year is a member of Lynx and took part in the longer cycle while the rest of the students : Stephen, Celine ,Cian ,David, Bill, Joshua, Ross, David, Simon, Sean, Shauna and Maria completed the 25km with a good number of staff encouraged by Mrs Finnegan now a cyclist vetern following her successful completion of Mizen to Malin in August
The staff in the Cluny Centre and other teachers did all the catering and there was a feast of food for all the cyclists during and after the cycle. Hugh praise is due to the members of Lynx Cycling club including parents and friends who cycled on the day. Their work , with the Sodexo staff , teachers and SNAs in Gallen CS ensured everything went off very smoothly on the day and many proased the excellent organisation .
There was a terrific atmosphere and great community spirit which is so much a part of our wonderful town of Ferbane. Thanks to everybody who took part and helped make this a memorable event
