The aim of the Cluny Centre is to provide a holistic learning and caring environment which facilitates students with ASD to reach their full educational potential in line with schools Mission Statement. The teachers, support staff and parents are partners in the student’s education. We place emphasis in areas of communication, daily living skills, social skills, SPHE, Literacy, numeracy skills and other areas like art, history, geography, maths where students excel.
The structure of the Cluny Centre allows for individual work stations and group activities. A combination of teaching strategies are used e.g. TEACCH, social stories, social skills. Differentiation is an integral part of the learning environment and all students have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) in accordance with the guidelines under ESPEN ACT 2004. Our SENO gives invaluable advice and support to parents and staff.
Students in the Cluny Centre are full members of Gallen Community School and interact with other students as appropriate and participate in school occasions and celebrations. Integration of students into mainstream classes is decided on an individual basis and dependent of their Individual educational plan.
