YOUNG SCIENTIST ENTRIES Gallen C.S. is  proud of its  Young  Scientists who  are entered into the BT  sponsored     event in January 2016. Well done to the students  concerned and to their teachers  Mrs  Catherine Hopkins and   Mrs  Alma  Killian.

Project  1-  Max  Feehan  ,  Cathal o Shea and Mark Dolan whose project is entitled ” Mucking Around with  Manure – A Deeper Insight”

Project 2- Steve  Anne  Buckley whose project is entitled”Ehlers  Danlos  Syndrome and Autism  Spectrum  Disorder – A Link?”

Project 3 -Adam  Henry  and   Josh  Dunican whose project is  called ” Farm  Friendly  Feeder”.

JOHN PAUL 11 AWARDS: Congratulations to all our  students who  received   John  Paul   the Second  Awards   in a  ceremony in   St  Mels  Cathedral Longford.  They were presented with their  awards by Bishop Francis Duffy. Thanks to   Sharon  Spollen ,  Sinead  McGuire,  Evelyn  Breen and  Sr.  Joseph  for   their  work with our  group

LEINSTER   JUNIOR LADIES FOOTBALL-  GALLEN CS  1-6 HEYWOOD  CS 1-0

Gallen emerged  victorious   in this  game  played in wet and windy conditions  in  Moystown  last  week.  Gallen got off to a good start with points from Shauna  Heffernan and Kate Kenny.Maria  Egan then scored a great goal  before Heywood got a goal.  Kate  Kenny with 3 points and  Shauna Heffernan  with one point then   left the half time score Gallen  1-6  Heywood 1-0. Incredibly there were no scores in the second half as the inclement weather dictated things. Gallen defended superbly and a win against Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington in their last group match   will see the  girls  managed by   Mrs .Derval  Scully ,Ms Elaine  Hough ,  KP Egan and  Tom Fitzmaurice , through to the qualifiying round.Team and  Scorers-  Luz   Corrigan , Aimee Kelly ,  Ava  Flynn ,Sophie  Gilson  Tara  Dunican , Grainne Kenny , Ella  Hogan,Kate  Kenny[0-4] Andrea  Arnold,  Ffion  Boland,  Sinead   Egan ,  Maria Egan 1-0,  Emma  Bracken ,  Shauna   Heffernan [0-2] Eimear  Carroll,  Laura  Egan , Caoimhe  Guinan and  Elaine  Bracken.

 

LEINSTER JUNIOR  B  CHAMPIONSHIP –  Gallen  CS 5-11  Boyne CS 3-7

Well done to our  u 16 group who emerged  victorious  in their  group  game played in  Shannonbridge.  The teams were evenly  matched  in the first   half.  Gallen scored two  goals through  Cian Johnson  and  Cathal  Flynn  but missed a number of  chances.  Boyne led  by 4 points at half time  but  Gallen upped their game in the  second half and thanks to a hat trick of goals  by  Cian  Johnson ran out  comfortable winners.  Gallen play Colaiste  Choilm  next  .TEAM –  Adam  Nugent ,Kieran  Guinan,  Griffin  Dunican , Michael  Wren ,  Paul  Devery ,  Jamie Kelly,  Clive  Keena ,  Lorcan  Daly ,  David   Nally[0-1] Tristan   Buckley [0-2]  Darragh  Carroll,  Sean  Flynn [0-2]  Cathal  Flynn [1-0]  Cian  Johnson [4-4] Sean  Flynn  [0-1].

JUNIOR RUGBY  LEAGUE – GALLEN CS 43  MOUNTBELLEW 12

Gallen won their 4th league match in a row to  qualify for the  League semi-final.Well done to Mr Mc  Grath and his team.

NAOMH  CIARAN  LADIES   CLUB –  at the  conclusion of the season , this   column   wants to  give special  mention to   Naomh  Ciaran ladies The  club  completed a clean sweep of titles in  Offaly this year, winning u 14 , 15 , 16 , minor  , senior  league and  championship and   Leinster  Intermediate  Finalists.  A noteworthy  achievement which in this  columnist’s opinion  makes them Offaly team of the year  across all sports.
