LADIES FOOTBALL-LEINSTER JUNIOR QUARTER FINAL- GALLEN CS 2-10 SCOIL CHRIOST RI 3-5
Gallen CS qualified for the semi-finals of the Leinster Junior Schools semi-final by virtue of a hard earned but well merited win over old foes Colaiste Chriost Ri Portlaoise in a match play at a windswept Ferbane venue on Thursday last.Criost Ri had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half and scores were very hard to come by as both teams played very well defensively. Chriost Ri led by 1-4 to 0-4 at half time with Gallen’s scores coming from 2 frees and 2 from play.
Gallen came out fighting in the second half and their short , sharp passing skills led to their first goal scored by second year student Sinead Egan. This gave Gallen a huge boost and they began to take the game to their opponents. Yet Criost Ri showed their mettle and hit back with two goals to establish a lead again. Gallen dug deep, Ellie Mc Evoy and Aoife Corbett fired over 3 points between them before Ffion Boland powered home a goal to level the game.Criost Ri hit back to go one point ahead but Gallen helped by some excellent defending from Amanda Keena , Emma Maher and Tara Egan , put some excellent pressure on their opponents. This gave them the platform to reach out for victory and points by Roisin Egan and Ellie mc Evoy gave Gallen a one point lead [2-9 to 3-5] with 3 minutes to go before Kaithlin Rigney scored the final point to give Gallen a well merited victory by two points on a score line of 2-10 to 3-5.A huge win for Gallen CS who now go forward to the Leinster semi-final. Well done to Mrs Derval Scully and her team .
Gallen CS wishes to thank KP Egan for all his work with the team and thanks also to Ferbane GAA for the use of their facilities. Best of luck to our Senior Ladies team in the Leinster Qualifier Round next week.

NORTH LEINSTER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP – GALLEN CS 2-11 MOATE CS 2-8.
Gallen CS defeated a strong Moate CS side in this keenly contested league clash played under lights in Moate CS on Monday of last week. Moate got the first point but Gallen hit back with a point through the excellent Ryan Heavin whose pace and direct running troubled the Moate defence throughout .Moate then led 0-2 to 0-1 before Gallen made it 0-2 to 0-2. Gallen were then rocked by the concession of two goals from Moate corner forward Kevin Kelly who got on the end of two deliveries to crash the ball on both occasions to the Ferbane net.Moate now led by 2-2 to 0-2 but Gallen inspired by people like Ronan Hynes , Kyle Higgins and Ryan Heavin , hit back and embarked on a purple patch which saw them outscore Moate by 1-5 to no score for the remainder of the half .Ronan Mc Guire got Ferbane’s goal as he palmed the rebound to the net after Cian Johnson’s initial shot was blocked.Jack Quinn came up from corner back to point , Ryan Heavin[2] including a lovely score off his left foot plus excellent long range points from Conor Owens and Tom Corcoran completed the scoring in the first half leaving the score at the break Gallen CS 1-7 Moate CS 2-2.Moate opened the second half with a point [ 1-7 to 2-3] before a punched goal from Jack Clancy and a point from the same player saw Gallen race into a 2-8 to 2-3 lead.Ryan Heavin and Conor Owens both scored long range points to give Gallen CS 2-10 to 2-3 lead before Moate left it a six point game at 2-10 to 2-4.Cian Johnson pointed for the Ferbane lads leaving them ahead by 2-11 to 2-4 but this proved to be Gallen’s last score as Moate inspired by their free running centre back rattled off four points in a row as well as hitting the post. Gallen and Moate both missed a few chances for goals and points but the Gallen lads did enough to win by 2-11 to 2-8 to qualify for the knockout stages ahead of their final group game against Colaiste Choilm.Well done to Mr Doyle and his team.
