Gallen C.S News Updates January 18th 2016

Student Congress :Last Thursday a group of students from first to sixth year attended the Student Leaders’ Congress in the RDS on Thursday 14th January with Chaplain Mrs Breen. These students (missing from photo Rebecca Daly and Leona Duggan) make up the Student Ambassador team in the school who are creating awareness about mental health in our school. The aim of the Congress last week was to promote positive mental health, help-seeking behaviour in young people, and the Cycle against Suicide message that It’s ok not to feel ok, and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help’. Caoimhe Barnes was interviewed on stage about Gallen CS project which saw students making a short video about students working together on creating the Wall of Affirmations: “Together we can help you reach Cloud 9”, this group will continue to work on our Mental Health week from Feb 29th –March 4th.

Young Scientists: Congratulations to the students who represented our school so well at the Young Scientist competition last week.  They were:  Project 1- Max Feehan, Cathal o Shea and Mark Dolan whose project is entitled “Mucking Around with Manure – A Deeper Insight” Project 2- Steve Anne Buckley whose project is entitled”Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder – A Link?”

Project 3 -Adam Henry and   Josh Dunican whose project is called “Farm Friendly Feeder”.

Connacht schools swimming competition:  Stacey Egan representing Gallen CS in the Connacht Schools competition last weekend won 2 bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Well done Stacey on her continued success in the world of swimming.

 

Guys and Dolls: Rehearsals are progressing well for our annual musical along with set design and building. This year’s production is “Guys and Dolls” and will take place from Feb 9th – 12th in our school.

Ladies Senior Football team : Congratulations to the Ladies Senior Football team who defeated Athone Community College in the Leinster semi-final last Friday 3:8 to 10 points. We have to wait to see who we will meet in the final but we know this group of girls have the skill and determination to meet any opponents. The TY reporters will have the full report for us next week.

Junior Rugby Team : The squad had a great win last Thursday in Galway against St Enda’s; in the closing minute they scored a try and conversion to win by one point. The TY reporters will have the full report for us next week.
