Seachtain  na Gaeilge:  Mile buiochas to  Ms  Maloney  for  organising  a very enjoyable and successful  Trath  Na Gceist  for  First  Years as part of Seachtain  na  Gaeilge. Is  feidir linn Gaeilge a labhairt i  Phobalscoil  na Gailinne.

New Parents Association elected:We are delighted to announce Margaret Healy is the  new chairperson of Gallen C.S parents Association  with Alice Cockram elected  as secretary and Orla Kenny as Treasurer. We wish them and all the parents who serve on the association good luck with their term of office.

John Wills Barnardos: On Wednesday 13th John Wills from Barnardos conducted a workshop with parents on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying. It was a most informative talk where John gave lots of tips to parents about  making mobile and internet devices more secure for their children and demonstrated ways in which parents can check on their children’s internet usage. He discussed cyber bullying and the importance  of keeping   channels of communication opened  at home  so teenagers can discuss any concerns they have.  The  parents council will continue to discuss this topic  at their next meeting and how they can help any parents who would like more information about this issue.

Shane Flaherty Workshop:Shane Flaherty from Performance Unity Learning Techniques spoke to a group of fifth  year students last Friday about the power of the mind and how we need to be motivated to work and how we have to take responsibility to a large degree for our own learning. He spoke about the importance of Goal setting to give direction to students setting targets  for their studies .

Agricultural  Science and  Biology  Field  Trips :Our  5th and  6th year  students  went  on  enjoyable  and  informative  field trips on Tuesday of  last week.  As part of their  Agricultural  Science course our  students  visited  the  farm of  Master  Farmer  Mr . Ciaran Mc  Donald,  Bellair  , Ballycumber  who  demonstrated the
specialities of  Farming to our students and showed them  the  state of the art  32 rotary  unit  milking parlour.  Gallen  CS wishes to thank  Mr mc  Donald for  his  sharing his  time  and  expertise with our  students.  In  the  Biology  field  trips our  students  learned
new and  important insights into different facets of their  Biology course  , something  which will be invaluable  at  Leaving Certificate  time. 

Junior Footballers: Best of  luck  to our  Junior  Footballers in the  All Ireland  semi
 final against Coachford CC on   Saturday  week. Time and  venue  to be decided.   Well done   to  them   for  also qualifying  for  the Leinster  Schools  Junior  B  final where they will play  Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington.Best of  luck also to  our  Junior Rugby   Team
who play  Colaiste  Iognaid in the  Connacht  Junior Development Final in   the  Galway  Sportsgrounds  on  Wednesday at 2pm.
