TWO FIRSTS IN SCI-FEST FOR GALLEN C.S.
On Wednesday 29th April 19 students with 9 projects travelled from Gallen Community School in Ferbane, to Athlone Institute of Technology to present at Scifest 2015.
We were part of a total of 232 projects by 550 students from 25 schools presenting in Athlone. Both our 2nd Year projects had previously exhibited at BTYSE 2015 and Stevie Anne Buckley our TY project was an award winner at last years Scifest, we also had 14 1st Year students with 6 projects between them for who this was all a new experience.
All students presented brilliantly and were commended on their presentations by the judges. Awards received were:

1st Place Junior Technology Category – Sean Flynn and Clive Keena Project: Alert Cow Calving
Highly Commended Junior Life Sciences Group Category Lucy Egan and Sophie Gilson Project: Make-up a true reflection
2nd Place Animal Welfare Awards Adam Henry and Joshua Dunican Project: FF45 Feeder

CONGRATS – to Gabby Hannon , Sam Samonte and Jay Coogan who did Gallen CS proud at the recent Leinster Special Olympics in Kilkenny.Jay won gold in 400 m running and two silver medals in the 100m and the shot putt.Jay also got a participation badge. Gabby won gold in the pentathlon and silver in the relay race.Sam got a silver in the relay and 2 participation badges. Well done !
GALLEN GIRLS STAR FOR OFFALY SENIOR AND MINOR FOOTBALLERS-Congrats to Ellie mc Evoy , Aoife Corbett , Roisin Egan , Emma Maher , Emer Nally and Eimear Flynn who were part of the panel who defeated Limerick at Parnell Park to win the Div 4 league title. The match was the curtain raiser to the All Ireland u 21 final between Tyrone and Tipperary and was staged live on TG4. Well done to Roisin who won Player of the Match and was presented with her award after the final whistle.Offaly rounded off a spectacularly successful weekend by winning the Leinster Ladies Minor B Final by beating Westmeath in the final. Roisin , Ellie , Aoife , Emer , Eimear , Emma were once again part of the panel as were ,Ciara Flynn and Avril Spain . Roisin won Player of the Match again . Well done Girls.
GAISCE– our Annual Gaisce Cycle will be staged this coming Thursday and Friday. Best of luck to all involved.
CSPE TRIP – Thanks to Mr Lenihan and Mrs Scully who accompanied the 2nd Year St Manchans Class on a trip to Dublin Zoo on Monday.
5th YEAR LCVP TRIP – thanks to Mr Lenihan and Ms Bardon who accompanied our 5th years on a trip to Abbotts of Longford. It gave the students an invaluable experience of business and commercial life.
PRACTICAL EXAMINATIONS – It was a busy time in Gallen CS last week as students did practical examinations in Art , Construction , LCVP and Engineering. Music and Home Economics Practicals were recently completed too .
