MATHS WEEK IN GALLEN CS

A very successful Maths Week was held in our school last week.  Maths week began with TY   investigating famous   mathematicians.  They presented their findings to their group.  A notable feature of the week was the   excellent colourful wall displays   with   mathematical themes. Each  year    group was  brought on a  Maths  trail around  Ferbane  and  students  used their  spatial awareness and mathematical reasoning  to see  Maths in the World around  them. A whole school Maths   competition was also run around the   theme of   Problem Solving with First Year, Junior School and Senior School taking part. Prizes will  be  given to the    winners in each year group.Gallen  CS  is  to  the  forefront  with its implementation of   JUMP  Maths  . Students and staff have also completed some surveys to assist us with our School Numeracy report.

GALLEN  CS  CLUNY  UNIT – our  students attended a most  enjoyable  Halloween    fancy dress  party   organised  by  Sacred  Heart  Tullamore.  The array of    costumes on   display was really   bewitching in the true Halloween sense of the word!

JUNIOR   GIRLS  FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Gallen  CS     after their  excellent  win in the  opening  round  against Moate  CS  continued where they left off  by travelling to  Granard and emerging  victorious on a 5-12 to 3-7  score line. They play   Longford next. Well done to Mrs Scully and her team. SENIOR BASKETBALL – MIDLANDS LEAGUE: GALLEN CS 31 LORETO MULLINGAR 28.

Gallen emerged winners in this   close contest played in   Gallen CS on Friday last.  This  sees   the   girls  bounce   back to record  their second win in the  League  after losing  narrowly to  Scoil  Dara Kilcock.Well done to  Ms  mc  Keogh and her team.

Well done  to our  Junior  Rugby  team under the  coaching of  Mr  McGrath  who  won their  3rd  match in a  row   in the  Connacht  Junior  League by beating  Ballygar 10-3 in  very inclement   conditions   last  Thursday. Two unconverted tries did the trick.

SENIOR   FOOTBALL – NORTH LEINSTER SENIOR B LEAGUE

Gallen CS 0-13 Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington 1-13

Gallen, minus a few key players, narrowly lost out in this first round league match played at a wet Gracefield venue on Wednesday last.  Exchanges were tight and Portarlington got a goal on the stroke of half time, leaving the score 1-6 to 0-8 at the break.  The   contest was level with ten minutes to go but   Colaiste Iosagain added points to emerge winners.  Gallens next two games are against Tullamore College and Naas CBS.
