GREEN SCHOOLS
Congrats to our Green Schools Committee under the Direction of Mrs O Toole , who held a very successful Green Schools Energy Day Presentation recently. The Transition Year Group of 2013-14 is hoping to bring a Second Green Flag to our School. We received our first Green Flag 3 years ago for litter and waste management and our Green Schools committee was very proud of our achievement. Gallen CS now hopes to get a second Green Flag for its theme of ” saving energy’s students Laura Cassidy , Chelsea Spollen and Serena Corcoran gave an excellent presentation on saving energy. The girls showed us the consequences of wasting energy both locally, nationally and globally. They told us some very interesting facts such as , leaving on a photocopier overnight is the equivalent of producing 5400 A4 Pages and for every tin can you recycle it can run your TV for 3 hours. Well done to the Green Schools Committee.
BASKETBALL
Hard luck to our 2nd Year Basketball Team who narrowly lost their semi-final to Presentation Portlaoise. This concludes a memorable year best remembered for our Cadettes winning the All-Ireland. Thanks to Ms M.C. Keogh for her work with all the teams.

Huge congratulations to the girls from Gallen Community School: Valene Greer, Zoe Rooney, Raveina Devery, Avril Spain and Sarah Kenny who have representated FerbaneBelmont GAA to win the All Ireland Scor competition in Castlebar on Saturday. Following on from their success in 2012 the girls did themselves, their club and our school proud when their excellent renditions of ” The Ballad of Michael Collins” and “Eoghainin o Ragadain ” saw them gain national honours once again. A wonderful achievement for all concerned. The girls lit up the Royal TF Theatre with their performances and Ms Deborah Reynolds deserves great credit for mentoring the girls. On their return to Ferbane on Sunday they were treated to a lovely reception hosted by Ferbane Belmont GAA .
