The last week has seen students from our school participate in different competitions with success along the way.
Representing Gallen Community School in the u14 Connaught schools Swimming Gala were two first year sisters Stacey and Sorcha Egan from Ferbane . These girls are serious swimmers and spend two hours five to six days every week practicing . Sorcha got a personal best in the backstroke and Stacey won third place and a Bronze medal for the 200 m individual medley. Jamie Darcy in sixth year won third place and a Bronze medal in the 100m freestyle in the senior section. Jamie is seeking a Division 2 timing and needs to cut his time by 2 seconds in his next competition in a few weeks. At this top level of competition every second counts !
In University of Limerick on Thursday 10th our u 16 basketball team fought bravely in the All Ireland cup final in their division again a stronger side from Colaiste Pobail Inbhear
Sceine Kenmare . The girls played well and by half time they were only trailing by 2 baskets. The Kenmare side pulled ahead in the fourth quarter and won in the end by 23- 37 points. We wish them well in the final. The girls received All Ireland Bronze Medals from Basketball Ireland . We are very proud of their hard work and commitment to training over the past few months so congratulations to Ms McKeogh and all the squad for their great achievement winning an All Ireland Bronze medals.
We also extended congratulations to Celine Camon and Emma Phelan for their work and commitment to their Young Scientist project which sought to examine how the use of different horse “bits” affect their performance. They girls were guided by Ms Hopkins over the last few months and put in an incredible amount of work into their project. Fellow TY students visited the RDS last Friday and were very impressed by the range and interest shown by hundreds of students in science .
