History & Information

Gallen Community  School is in existence since 2004 following the successful amalgamation of two schools in the town of Ferbane. In September 2010 we moved into a fabulous new building  designed by Henry J Lyons Architects and built under the DES Public Private Partnership scheme. Sodexo is the facility management company on site which ensures the maintenance of the building is consistent  with  high standards.

The school is funded by the Department of Education and Science and is provided with staff in accordance with the teacher allocation system of the Department of Education and Science.

As a Community school we offer a curriculum to all the students in our catchment area that is broad, balanced and challenging. We seek to provide a climate in which students find encouragement to develop spiritual and moral values, personal and social skills and the highest standards of excellence of which they are capable, academically and in all other aspects of their school activities. Students should find in our school an environment that promotes all types of abilities and talents. They are also encouraged to  develop the opportunities to make a positive contribution to their own education through their involvement in Transition year, competitions, extra -curricular activities and  the Student Council. In partnership with parents we pursue the common aim of educating  our students and our goal is the informed student who prizes truth, appreciates the value of learning and is mature and honourable.

In recent Inspection Reports the quality of our teaching and learning has been commended, testified by the many students which achieve excellent results in their Leaving Certificate and  go on to continue their studies in universities and other higher education  and further education colleges.

As a school community we work in close co-operation  with lots of local volunteer, sporting and other groups in our catchment area to ensure our  students get the best opportunities to participate in sports and other extra curricular activites . We are also  pleased to be able to make our facilities available to local community groups .
