Home Economics aims to empower students with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes necessary for managing their own lives, for further education and work.
Home Economics is one of the most relevant lifeskills subjects a young person can study in school, as students are introduced to topics such as:

- Culinary skills,
- Home management,
- Home design
- Safety and sustainability
- Consumer studies
- Textile studies
Home Economics provides students with a wide range of learning experiences and the academic knowledge, understanding and essential practical skills for application in the process of everyday life within the home and community. This is achieved through active and experiential learning methodologies. Practical cookery classes, textile classes and hands-on activities are an integral part of the course.
Home Economics at both Junior and Leaving cert level encompasses both practical and theoretical assessment
