MARCH 26TH CAREER UPDATES FROM GALLEN CS. FERBANE

  • Applications for apprenticeships in the ESB opened last Friday but the closing date is APRIL 4th so I wanted to let you know about this in case any interested student misses this deadline with the Easter holidays. They or you can apply on http://candidatemanager.net/esb/apprenticeship.htm and if you want further information you can ring  1890 39 39 39 between 09.00 – 17.00 for more information.
  • Bus Éireann, the national bus and coach company and Dublin Bus,  are now seeking to recruit apprentice heavy vehicle mechanics. Like the ESB the apprenticeship positions are open to both female and male candidates. The closing date for applications is 10th April 2016. Apply online at http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=446.
  • We have had students who have been successful in acquiring apprenticeships in both ESB and Bus Eireann over the past few years so I urge you to please consider this as an excellent career path . All applications are online and there is an online aptitude test that students have to complete a few weeks after the application. www.careerservices.ie offers practice aptitude tests that are excellent for candidates serious about making the best effort in securing a good score in the aptitude part of the application which can be difficult enough.
  • Applications for the Defence Forces Officer Cadetships 2016 is now opened also and closing Date for that is 17th April. Information and  online application can be accessed on the home page of www.military.ie
  • SUSI the online Grant  Application system are opening earlier this  year, Tuesday 5th April. Normally you  have had to wait until after receiving a CAO offer in August to be told whether or not they qualify for a grant. This year, Susi will make a “conditional offer” once it has processed the student’s application – and that could be as early as May. This  will give you the opportunity to make an application in time and know if your son/daughter will qualify for a grant. You will need your PPS numbers, your Eircode when you apply on www.susi.ie.   Neither Ms Donnelly or myself  complete this application in school  with students as family circumstances and income have to be filled in .
