I hope everyone is rested after Mid-term break. It was well deserved, and you can all be very proud of yourselves for your efforts and wonderful talent on display in our school musical- The Wedding Singer. Thanks once again to Ms Bracken, Mr. Dench and Ms Gleeson.
We have a busy term ahead of us with lots of activities and speakers coming up. We have already had a talk on Gaisce on Thursday February 27 and an Engineering talk with Joe Dunican on Friday 28th last. I hope you found these interesting and beneficial.
Some students have opted to go on Work Experience this week and you will have your official second week starting Monday March 9th. This was pushed back a week to accommodate students securing Work Experience as you were very busy with the Musical. All students will be given a Work Experience pack and I would ask you to bring back, or have your employer send back, your Employers report. This will be returned to you after review and it should then be put into your school diary under the Work Experience section. It goes without saying that you are an ambassador for yourself, your family and your school while on Work Experience, so do your very best.
Best of luck to Moya Ibbotson, Katie Flynn and Moya Guinan who will represent our school in the regional final of Junk Kouture in Castlebar this Thursday the 5th of March. You did a great job on your creation, “Bee Gold”, and I hope the judges agree. Thanks to Ms McKeogh for all your help and guidance.
Best of luck also to Eoin Lally, Emma Cahill, Aimee Mckenna and Mollie Flynn who will represent the school in the Offaly Schools Enterprise final in Tullamore on next Thursday, March 5th. Thanks to Ms Mcdonagh and Ms Shine for all your help with the students involved.
The week after Work Experience, starting Wednesday March 18, subject modules and Wednesday activity modules will switch about.
We have been in contact with Birr Golf Club and we will be undertaking a fun module to encourage young people to take up the game of golf. All students will have 2-3 sessions in the driving range and then will get to play 9 holes on the course to finish up. The students will receive instruction from Mikey Horan { Club Pro } and use of clubs and balls on the driving range. When they go out on the course a number of club members have volunteered to go with them. There will be a cost involved- driving range balls, club rental, instruction and bus rental. We will try to keep the cost as low as possible and we would encourage all our TY’s to get involved in what should be a very fun activity. We hope to start soon after Work Experience.
In relation to the Enterprise module the TY students will be travelling to Future Sparks in the RDS on Thursday March 26 with their business teachers Ms McDonagh and Ms Shine. Thank you to them for organising this.
On Monday March 30 and 31 the TY students will go to Birr Education Centre for their overnight Gaisce trip. The students will be given an information pack on what to bring nearer the time.
