Members and supporters of Naomh Ciáran Ladies Football Club undertook a 90-100 km sponsored walk over the May Bank Holiday weekend to raise funds for their club and for the Cluny Centre in Gallen Community School. On Saturday 5th they started off the walk from Carbury on the Offaly Kildare border and walked to Clara . On Sunday they walked from Clara to the far side off the bridge in Shannonbridge, thus crossing the county line of Roscommon. They raised a massive total of €5,626.34 .
Last Thursday morning we were delighted to welcome Tom Fitzmaurice, John Dunican, Sue Egan, Carmel Flynn, KP Egan, Annette Corcoran, Martha Boylan and Paudge Malone to the Cluny Centre to meet some of the students and staff and learn more about the activities the students engage in. Nikita one of our third year students in the Cluny Centre participated in the sponsored walk and received a special gift from the Ladies Football club in recognition for her great sffort. After some light refreshments and a chat , Nikita and club members presented a cheque for €2813.17 to the school. In accepting this generous donation and expressing their thanks, Mr Irwin and Mrs Finnegan spoke about how this money would be used to continue in maintaining speech and language therapy and occupational therapy services for these students over the next academic year. We were delighted more members of the local community got to see first -hand some of the work that the staff do in the Cluny Centre and meet some of the students. Students presented flower pots they had prepared to members of the committee to show their thanks also.
