NOTABLE SPORTING RECOGNITION FOR GALLEN CS STUDENTS PAST AND PRESENT.
Gallen CS will be well represented at the Offaly GAA Awards Ceremony on Friday January 12 2018 with four awards recipients being either past or present students of Gallen CS.
Ellee McEvoy will receive the Senior Ladies Footballer of the Year award after helping Naomh Ciaran to 3 in a row of senior county titles. Ellee was an integral part of our All Ireland winning ladies team of 2016.
Colin Kenny will receive the u 21 Footballer of the Year Award in recognition of outstanding displays in the u 21 championship notably in the final against Durrow where he lead from the front just as he did in 2013 when he captained our Junior Footballers to All Ireland glory.
Nathan Poland will receive the Intermediate Football Player of the Year Award. Nathan was one of the key players as Ger. Lynam’s men won the Offaly Intermediate title this year. Nathan played full forward on our All Ireland Senior Colleges B winning team in 2016.
Cian Johnson will receive the Minor Football Player of the Year Award for his displays. Cian played football at four grades this year, minor, intermediate, u21 and senior a testament to his versatility and ability. Cian scored 1-4 and was TG4 man of the match in our 2016 All Ireland victory.
Congratulations to Ellee, Colin, Cian and Nathan outstanding sportspeople and role models we can be proud of.
JUNIOR LADIES FOOTBALL
Gallen CS 3-12 Sacred Heart Tullamore 3-9. Helped by 3 goals from Kate Kenny our Junior Girls team won this championship match after their first round loss to Rathangan but they bowed out of the championship on goal difference.
Thanks to parents Hugh Egan and James Bracken for their work with our Ladies Football teams and to Ms Raymond for her support also.

JUNIOR HURLING-
After great wins against Kilcormac , Clara and Mountmellick our lads qualified for the North Leinster semi-final but they came up against a very strong and physical Castlepollard CC and were beaten. Hurling has made a welcome return to our school and thanks to parents Jimmy Cahill and Mick Flynn for allowing our students the opportunity to play.
JUNIOR LADS FOOTBALL
Our junior team bowed out of the North Leinster Junior B Competition last week after losing to a strong St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge team. The lads were well beaten in this one but acquitted themselves very well in the opening two matches against Colaiste Choilm and Athlone CC.
CONNACHT SCHOOLS SENIOR RUGBY LEAGUE DEVELOPMENT FINAL
The lads were beaten by a strong Presentation Headford side but will now regroup for the Senior Development cup after Christmas. Thanks to Mr O Neill and Charlie Couper for their work with the team.

SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 1 – Gallen CS 1-11 Rochfortbridge 1-8
Thanks to 1-2 from Catha Flynn and 0-5 from Cian Johnson Gallen got their campaign off to a winning start in Ferbane on Friday December 1.
ROUND 2- Gallen CS 0-7 Granard 1-7
An underperforming Gallen side conceded 1-2 when playing with a wind advantage and couldn’t retrieve the situation in Granard on Thursday December 7.
Gallen now play Ballymahon VS in a do or die match on Tuesday January 9 where the winners progress to the quarter finals and the losers bow out. Gallen will work hard over the Christmas break in readiness for this match.
1ST YEAR FOOTBALL
Congrats to Mr Doyle and his team who have qualified for the Br Hubert Shield final v Banagher CC. This final will be played on Wednesday December 13 in Ferbane at 12. In the group stages the lads beat St Finians Mullingar and Killina SS .
