We want to congratulate all our students who took part in the musical collaboration of Midland Musical Youth and Birr Stage Guild of Les Miserables in Birr theatre on August 5th and 6th . It was an outstanding production and the enthusiastic ovation with the audience to their feet on both nights told its own story. The full concert performance was costumed with details of the story and other images reflected on a screen at the back of the stage. Joe Maher played Jean Valjean and was outstanding in his performance. With his superb voice and presence on stage he brought many of the audience to tears with his rendition of “Who am I ?” and “Bring him Home” in particular. The leads were all backed up by a very strong supporting cast many who had short solos including Jarleth Stevenson and Alex Kearns who showed great promise as actors and singers taking on parts as soldiers, townsmen and rebels.Valene Greer was terrific in her short solo as a street lady and Niamh Delaney in the chorus was also part of this production. Over 50 young people from 16-20 performed to a level that would not be out of place in the West End. Well done to all involved!
Congratulations to all our sixth years on the occasion of their Graduation in the Bridge House Hotel on August 7th. It was a wonderful night to celebrate the end of their secondary school with your teachers, parents and family members. Student council members Ciara Spain, Mark Dolan and Niamh Delaney made some touching speeches recalling memories of six years together and praised and thanked their their teachers and parents who supported them throughout their school days. The food was great and after the meal the Lols got the crowd up dancing for the next few hours. Parents and school staff were delighted with the night and proud of the students who conducted themselves in an excellent manner as we can expect from our students.
To all our students who took played in the All Ireland Feile in Derry last weekend well done. To date we have news of an All Ireland Silver medal but will give more information as soon as all is confirmed.
