MEDIA RELEASE: 11th July 2018
SUSI asks students to submit their grant applications by 12th July
SUSI, the national student grant awarding body, is today highlighting its priority closing date for new grant applicants and encourages those students who have not yet applied to do so immediately.
This years’ priority closing date is Thursday 12th July.
SUSI has to date received 80,000 out of a projected 100,000 grant applications from new and returning students for the 2018/19 academic year. Aoife Greene, Communications & Information Services Manager with SUSI, urges students to start the process of applying today: “Our aim is to have as many grant application decisions communicated to students before the beginning of the academic year as possible.
To that end I would encourage students to go to our website where they can find all the necessary information about applying for a grant.
“Leaving certificate students do not need their results or their final course choice to apply. I would advise them to have gathered their PPSN and the PPSN of other parties to the application such as parents, spouses, etc.; the income information for 2017 as applicable to these persons within a household; and to have their first choice course details to hand when they sit down to apply. Once we receive an application we will write out to them directly if we need additional documentation. Presently fewer than half of all applicants are required to provide additional documents, the remainder are processed fully online.
“Four fifths of all expected applications including both new and renewal applications have been received. However we have received just two-thirds of the new applications that we are expecting which means that about 20,000 students have yet to apply to us so we would really like to see a surge in applications before our 12th July priority deadline. This is in order that we can meet these students’ expectations to have a decision well before they go to college. To note, applications will continue to be accepted after this date but we will prioritise those received by 12th July.
“For all students who have applied, we are exceeding our targets for processing and finalising applications and rest assured if you have not received communication from us yet we will be in touch within a matter of weeks. Students can track the progress of their applications and confirm that documentation has been received through their own SUSI ‘online application trackers’. This is available by logging in to their individual SUSI account.”
