May 2016 was a very busy month in Gallen CS. While sixth and third years were working hard in their classes and with their revision schedules other events were also taking place in school. We were delighted the Parents Association hosted a visit from IGC president Betty McLoughlin at night time for parents . They also covered the fee for Pat McKenna from Childwatch who did workshops with all year groups on cyber use and misuse and addressed parents at night time also.
In conjunction with Atlantic Corridor we were delighted to welcome Dr Mary Guinan to Gallen CS and she addressed both TYs and fifth year science students about her work in fighting disease all over the world. The same afternoon in conjunction with Co.Offaly Heritage officer Amanda Pedlow and Ferbane historian Brendan Ryan, Gallen CS was chosen to show a film about Mary Ward, Ferbane science (d 1869) and her cousin Lady Rosse of Birr Castle before the guests moved to the Heritage Centre where Eamon Dooley unveiled a plaque in remembrance to Mary Ward.
Our annual concert was a great success and thanks to Ms Reynolds for all her work in promoting music and performance throughout the year. We had our Transition year Presentation night and also toasted our victorious Connaught Development Cup team who were presented with jackets on the night. The u 14 Leinster runner ups girls were also presented with their medals on the night.
On Monday 30th May we had out annual sixth year Graduation Mass which was a beautiful and fitting way to mark the end of 6 years in school for the majority of them. After the Mass the girls let off balloons to mark another transition in their lives.
During the final week we were pleased to be able to celebrate first, second and third years in our second year of Endeavour awards. Certificates were given for merits received, Excellent attendance, Random Acts of Kindness and then Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates for excellence in many facets of school life . This is just a small sample of photos from May 2016.
