The Art room in Gallen Community School is always a vibrant place. The Art department aims to develop and maximise the creative potential of all students. Students have the option to study the subject for both Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle. All students get the opportunity to do a module of Art in Transition year and are involved in many different activities such as painting sets for our school musical, Individual Art work, competitions and group work where students have created work of the highest of quality to decorate and enhance our magnificent school building.

Leaving Cert Art is made up of four units linked together and based on everyday visual experiences of the student’s own environment. The practical work includes life sketching, Still life or Imaginative Composition and Design or Craftwork. Students also study History and Appreciation of Art.
As well as visiting the local Luan Gallery in Athlone students from Gallen Community school have also visited the National Gallery Dublin and the Hunt Museum Limerick as part of Art History.
